Film Festival in January

In January, we will examine three vintage films from the 1960’s which show us interesting intersections between what we say, how we act and what we do. All films will be shown at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. No tickets or reservations are needed.

Monday, January 6: The Miracle Worker Running Time 106 minutes

The movie tells the story of Annie Sullivan’s struggles to teach Helen Keller how to interact with her world. This film won five Oscars, including Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.

Monday, January 13: Lilies of the Field Running Time 94 minutes

Sidney Poitier won an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance as Homer Smith, an itinerant handyman who builds a chapel for five impoverished nuns in the Arizona desert.

Monday, January 27: Elmer Gantry Running Time 146 minutes

Burt Lancaster stars in the title role as a fast-talking traveling salesman turned evangelist. The film casts a slightly tarnished light on traveling ministries and analyzes the nature of faith and redemption.
